Katharine Dryden (mezzo-soprano)
Katharine knew from a very young age that she wanted to be a singer, her music teacher at school noticed her voice and encouraged her to pursue her dream. She soon began having singing lessons and, as a young singer, she studied for 7 years with the famous mezzo-soprano, Constance Shacklock. In 2017 she was invited to unveil a blue plaque at the Theatre Royal, Nottingham, in memory of her beloved teacher. She went on to study with Lynne Wayman and now works with Linda Hutchison, a professor at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.
Katharine is a professional singer, who performs at corporate and private functions, as well as being a popular solo recital singer. She has performed in opera and has vast experience of singing art song, songs from the Great American Songbook, and music hall. She also performs vintage and wartime songs under the name of Kitty Mai.
With David Machell, she runs a highly successful concert series at St Mary’s, Lowdham. One of these concerts inaugurated the Alto-Viola-Piano Trio featured throughout 2022.
